The Wall Gallery at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre

Centre's patients enjoy a representation of nature

Things are happening at the Wall Gallery, located in the exterior of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre. For the fifth straight year, the Centre's exterior has been reshaped with a work from visual artist and engraver Simoni Philippou. The Wall Gallery showcases the treatment centre's exterior, transforming it into a permanent visual space, while raising awareness about cancer and imparting optimism to patients.

Each exposition of the Wall Gallery features a new large-scale work, created via different art forms and bearing the signature of either well-established or up-and-coming visual artists from Cyprus. Each work on display meets the standards - as set out by a relevant study - suitable for a treatment centre, and is placed in such a way that it's visible from the patients' and nurses' wards.

Through the Wall Gallery's visual platform, Simoni Philippou has created a calming representation of dense vegetation, with a variety of birds enjoying the trees' rich foliage. While the sight itself may not seem original, it certainly reminds us how remarkable nature is. The artist herself feels that even simple scenery can tickle the senses and offer a sanctuary to all visitors - young and old.

The project design is the result of research conducted the non-profit organisation ABR (Alternative Brains Rule), and supported by Bank of Cyprus. The Wall Gallery project addresses the need to improve the quality of patient accommodation at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre in Nicosia. It also serves as a platform showcasing and supporting local talented creators.
