Useful information on interest rates, fees, instalment payments and the right to withdraw from the agreement

Is my installment affected by fluctuations of the interest rates?

For floating rate loans, the interest rate can be changed at any time (upward or downward) depending on base rate changes. The variable interest rate consists of the base rate plus margin. Every time the total interest rate changes, your loan installment will also change.

For fixed rate loans, the interest rate does not change under any circumstances. Thus, your installment remains constant, unaffected by a possible rise in interest rates, however it should be noted that, at the same time, you do not benefit from a possible reduction in interest rates.

    What are the initial fees?

Some facilities may bear initial fees, payable when they are granted.

    Initial bank fees

    • Arrangement fees: these relate to the Bank’s costs for preparing and evaluating your application.
    • Documentation fees: a fixed charge for the preparation of legal documents, the charge is determined by the facility amount.

For applications submitted through the Bank’s digital channels, you do not pay any initial Bank fees.

     Government fees

These fees are regulated by relevant law as follows:

    • Mortgage registration fees paid to the Land Registry.
    • Fees relating to stamp duty of the facility documents and paid to the Commissioner of Taxation.
    • Fees paid to the Land Registry in cases where the transfer of property from one owner to another is necessary.

    Fees paid to third parties

These are fees related to valuations carried out on behalf of the Bank by approved valuers for mortgaged property, or fees related to life and/or home insurance.

Find out about all Bank fees from the Table of Commissions and Charges

What do I need to know about loan instalment payments?

    • You can provide instructions in writing, so that your instalment is paid automatically from your account.
    • You can pay your instalments as determined by the terms of your loan. Please make sure to designate a date that is convenient for you. Should this date change, you need to promptly contact your servicing branch.
    • Delayed instalment payments incur additional costs, increasing the cost of your financing.
    • Should your financial circumstances change and you are unable to keep up with instalment payments per the terms of your contract, please get in touch promptly with your servicing branch in order to agree a new repayment schedule adapted to your new circumstances.

What happens if I pay off my loan/instalments early?

Where a loan is paid off early, or instalments are paid early in relation to the agreed schedule, the Bank will charge costs depending on the type of interest rate and the amount that was paid off early.

The Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is the total cost of the financing to the consumer. The APR includes all financing expenses paid by the client to either the Bank or to third parties (e.g. government fees, valuation expenses, insurance etc).

The APR is considered to be the best tool for comparing the real cost for the customer as it includes all the financing expenses. It helps you form a complete picture and to compare the Bank’s schemes with the schemes of other banks.

    What is the financing method?

    Financing with Hire Purchase.

    • When your application is approved the car ownership is transferred to the Bank of Cyprus and to your name and the seller is paid
    • When the financing amount is fully repaid, the car ownership is transferred to you after you pay the amount of €50 to the Bank for the right to purchase. The right to purchase is incorporated in the last instalment.

Are there any other Hire Purchase options, other than the purchase of a car?

There are Hire Purchase options available for the purchase of used cars, equipment, or motorcycle (new or used). For more information contact any Relationship Officer in our Branch Network.

  • How can I sign my legal documents after approval? Is it possible to use a digital signature?

After your application is approved, you will receive a relevant message both on your mobile phone and in 1bank.

You will be able to choose to sign using a digital signature, provided that certain conditions are met. If you do not choose to sign using a digital signature or if the conditions set are not met, the documents will be signed at your servicing branch, unless you have indicated otherwise during the application.

The use of digital signature is currently available only for applications submitted through the BoC Mobile app.

What are the conditions for using a digital signature?

    • The account for deduction of expenses and/or monthly installment must exclusively belong to you. If no such account exists, you are given the option to open a new e-Instant account. A debit card can be connected to the account, which can be used for purchases through the internet or at merchants’ stores. In addition, the account can be used for transactions through 1bank and for the repayment of installment of loans and cards.
    • The language in which the documents are issued must be your language of communication.
    • No additional terms and conditions are set for the financing by a Bank officer.

If I am entitled to sign using a digital signature, how is the purchase made and what is the cost?

The digital signature is used exclusively for the signing of the documents required for the specific financing. There is no charge for this.
